Discover what's good to know

A free, ad-free platform for curious people to discover things they’ll genuinely enjoy, from books and podcasts to places, restaurants, websites, apps and more — all based on your interests, with no paywalls, no AI slop.

Good to Know was founded by Alice Ketteridge and Daniel Havershaw, with help from a small development team from partner site, Bookshelfie, and built around a simple frustration: great content is getting buried behind algorithms, ads, and paywalls. They wanted to create a place where books, podcasts, places and more are genuinely enjoyable to find — whether you have five minutes or an hour.

Think of it as a fun way to discover new things. Find new books not dictated by the algorithm, listen to podcast highlights, watch videos, and explore fascinating places to go and eat — all in one easy place. No doomscrolling, no AI slop, just things actually worth knowing.

In addition to that, our articles cover everything from current events, science, and history, to things you should know and hidden gems across the world. Our community forum gives you a space to share questions and have real conversations, away from the toxicity of social media.

Everything on this site is completely free to use. The site is supported by sponsorships and by submissions from our community — every one helps keep Good to Know running and growing.

Questions, answered
  • 1What is your policy on refunds?
Paid submissions are optional and intended to support the site, so unfortunately we no longer offer refunds. If you're unsure whether a paid submission is right for you, we'd encourage you to try a free submission first, or read a few of our existing reviews to get a feel for our style before paying.
  • 2Can I submit something I didn't make myself?
Absolutely. Please submit anything you think is worth discovering, whether it's a book, podcast, place, product, or idea you stumbled across. Our goal is to build a collection of things worth knowing about that's genuinely fun to browse, so submissions don't need to be your own work.
  • 3My review, guide, or feature had errors, or felt too negative. Can it be changed?
We try our best, but we don't always get everything right. Our aim is to be honest while staying positive, but occasionally that balance doesn't land the way we intended. If something feels off, send us a request and we're happy to take it down or issue a revision.
  • 4How do I know you're not a scam?
We get it: there are unfortunately a lot of scams out there, so a degree of caution is warranted. If you ever have a concern, please send us a polite email rather than an angry one. We're genuinely not scammers, and we're always happy to answer questions.
  • 5What's your policy on AI?
We're generally against AI-generated content, but we're not absolutist about it; we recognise it can be a useful tool. If you used AI to help put together your submission, that's okay. What we ask is that submissions aren't solely made by AI, so please don't submit something that's entirely AI-generated.
  • 6Will you let me know when my guide, review, or feature goes live?
We don't have an automatic notification system in place just yet, so nothing will be sent out by default. If you'd like a heads-up the moment it's published, just drop us an email and we'll be sure to let you know.
  • 7My Submission is taking longer than expected. Should I follow up?
Of course. A polite, friendly reminder is always welcome, and we'll do our best to get to it as quickly as we can. As a small human team, things occasionally take longer than we'd like, but we haven't forgotten about you.
  • 8I noticed you make Chrome plugins. Why?
We do! These were built by our developer team purely to improve your browsing experience elsewhere on the web. They're a separate project from Good to Know and basically aren't connected to the rest of the site.
